I think from the day I rode my first tricycle, I’ve had an interest in all things mechanical. If
it was “tinkerable” with, I’d tinker with it!
I couldn’t leave
anything alone. I just had to alter it. After all, “I
could make that... better”!
During my professional life time
I have carried out a large and diverse range of projects such as
designing and scratch building some quite radical promotional cars for
companies as equally diverse as Henley Beetles in London.
Occasionally I would don my cloth cap and restore and modify cars too.
One arduous task was replicating a full chassis to replace a very rusted
and sorry looking example from underneath a Reliant 5SE.
Installing V8 engines and Toyota gearboxes into MGBs is nothing new, but
adding narrowed disc brake Volvo axles with 4-link rear ends is enough to
make any MGB traditionalist straighten their cap.
I have spent hour upon hour sanding and filling moulds
for single body panels and plugs for complete car bodies. Days and days have
been spent drawing and re-drawing suspensions and chassis for circuit cars,
single seater race and hillclimb cars, autograss cars, motorcycles, quads,
off-road mini buggies and full size cars.
Apart from my own cars,
I have devised and built numerous on
and off-road cars for others and have consulted on many including one of Deakin University's FSAE cars.
My Australian born
wife and I met in the UK and emigrated to Australia in 1992, where
I soon discovered a local off-road buggy racing club, T.O.R.C. I’ve held various offices within T.O.R.C. in
past years, including
Newsletter Editor, Chief Scrutineer, Vice President, and President.
I’m no longer at the reigns of the Club and unfortunately don't even compete anymore, but
I still keep a strong interest in
the Club and its progress.
These days I
spend most of my time at the computer conceiving mechanical devices, car components
and even complete cars for a variety of private individuals and car
manufacturers and builders on five continents.
