"What a brilliant bit of kit! It works just like it
should."
J. O'C. - Galway, Ireland
This full size
English Wheel is designed with the utmost simplicity of construction in
mind. It is of very sturdy design, being built from large section 6mm wall
tube, ensuring high rigidity.
The throat is
a generous 800mm [31 ½"] deep and the height of the throat is 1078.5mm
[42
½"], so it can easily accommodate large and awkward shapes.
The Wheel is
infinitely adjustable by means of a 65mm square quill and stout Ø1" screw.
The anvils and
wheel run on ball bearings for smooth, trouble free operation and the wheel
can be quickly removed by simply rotating the axle a ¼ turn.
Given its
capacity, the whole machine is quite compact, making it ideal for the home
workshop and factory alike. With the addition of heavy-duty castors, the
machine can be easily manoeuvred. The working height (with Ø100mm [4.00"]
castors fitted) is 1152mm [45 ⅜"].
Detailed
drawings of the anvils and wheel are provided in the
Manual so you can make
your own. Alternatively, you can purchase the anvils and wheel pre-finished
(with or without bearings installed). They are available individually or in
sets.
A lathe (or
access to one) would be necessary if it’s decided to make your own anvils
and wheel.
The only other
tools required are a scriber or craft knife, a tape measure, a compass (or
dividers), a setsquare, a centre punch, a hacksaw, a cut-off saw (or
bandsaw), a pedestal drill (or hand drill), Ø8.5mm, Ø10.5mm, Ø12.7mm [½"],
Ø19.05mm [¾"] drill bits, a Ø28.6mm [1 ⅛"] hole saw, a M10 x 1.5 tap, a
welder, and an angle grinder and file for finishing.
